The Next 5 Days (Days 6-11): Creating a Signature Work Uniform [August Challenge]

Hello Beautiful People,

Here is a review of the next 5 days of my august signature work wardrobe! Enjoy!

Day 6 (August 6):

It’s Monday! Usually, I am not as enthusiastic about Monday’s but lately, I have been trying to maintain a positive perspective for Monday’s as being the perfect day to plan and be productive.

I woke up this morning feeling exhausted. I had a very busy Sunday that involved catching up on housework, meal prepping, editing photos and videos for content and doing a photo shoot for a DIY project a friend and I have been working on. My day started around 9 am and lasted until about 11pm. My 5:45 am call time the next morning came super early (of course). As I stumbled my way about it in the bathroom, I was relieved that I didn’t have to do the same in my closet to choose what I would wear that day.  One less decision to make before I starting my day! [happy dance]

Accessories were minimal as I paired my uniform with gold geometric shaped earrings with eyelet detail. I rolled up my sleeves for comfort as it was already 75 degrees at 7 am and drove into work.

Day 7 (August 7):

“I could get used to this”. I’ve realized just how much I have settled into a nightly routine in regards to what I do to prepare for work the next day. Pack lunch, shower, gather bags, lay out outfit. It’s nice to not have that last worry anymore!

Today’s uniform pairing included a white waterfall cotton cardigan with 3/4 sleeves coupled with teardrop triangle/metal marble earrings.

Day 8 (August 8):

“I don’t think people are noticing” is what I exclaimed to my boyfriend that morning.

As he looked at me and asked, “are you wearing the same outfit as yesterday”? Even he just noticed what I was up to, which made me smirk a little bit.

I paired the outfit with a solid black vest that elongated by top half. Accessories included a black watch, hoop earrings, and a double tier tassel necklace.

Day 9 (August 9):

I made it to the end of the week!” Another effortless day included wearing a black blazer with faux leather sleeves. My accessories were simple yet glam with the items I received from Glamour Box Jewelry with silver stud earrings and a delicate long bobbin necklace.

Day 10 (August 10):

My office today is from my warm cozy bed ❤

Day 11 (August 11):

Laundry day! Throughout the week I decided to do myself a favor and spread out laundry that needed to be done by rotating 2 of the 4 shirts throughout the week. After day 1 & 2, I took both shirts and dabbed a combination of lemon juice and water onto the armpit area to eliminate any bacteria that may have accumulated – set them out to dry for about and hour and they were ready to be worn again for days 3&4!

I visited Fia’s Fabulous Finds, a local boutique in Washington, D.C. last weekend and picked up some amazing goodies! She was holding her annual Fill-A-Bag sale which allowed you to get as many items that could fit into a takeaway bag for ONLY $35.

I shared the below video as a try on haul on my Instagram stories and decided why not compile them into one video and show you guys what I got- Enjoy!

I highly recommend you check out Fia’s if you are in the DC area!

How Spending $30 Shopping Secondhand Made me $100 in one Week

If you clicked on this post and thought that I may have performed a magic trick — keep reading. Unfortunately, their wont be any mentions of “Abracadabra” or pulling rabbits from a top hat, but there is the fact that I seamlessly turned $30 into $100 in a week without breaking a sweat!

What’s the secret?  Well, if you have not caught on by now, I am a HUGE fan of secondhand shopping and even better, reselling on social platforms like Poshmark and eBay. For this post, I will be focusing on how I successfully flipped a pair of brand new Allen Iverson’s into cash after stumbling across them at the thrift store a few weeks ago.

A little tip about your girl is that I AM NOT A SNEAKER HEAD. I literally know nothing about sneaker trends, styles, color way, anything that the cool kids are wearing on their feet these days. However, when I saw this particular pair of shoes, that little voice in my head said, “What ARE those?!”. Turns out they were a unicorn find of Reebok Classics Collaboration with Allen Iverson x Melody Ehsani, Question Mid X. Originally released in 2016 — a collaboration with designer-retailer Melody Ehsani that nods to his rebellious spirit are exclusively made for women. Props Allen!

After pulling a quick poll on my Instagram Stories, I reached out to the reselling community and friends to survey if I should keep or pass (with the idea that I would sell) After a bit of conversation, I decided to pull the trigger and purchase despite some friends expressing their opinions and declared how ugly they were, out of style, and just plain “wack” (lol).

Instagram Poll

That evening, I decided to do some more research on these shoes, because at this point I am obsessed with these shoes (naturally). And to my surprise, they were:

1. A RARE find. It was a bit difficult to find comparisons with similar items sold in this color way.

2. The profit margins were everywhere! Sold shoes in new condition ranged from $90-$130.

With that in mind, I decided to hedge my bets and go to Poshmark & eBay to list these babies! My heart was racing as I took the photos. In my best effort to capture the perfect lighting, and angle. I finally selected 8 of the best pictures and posted my listing with a starting price of $125 (to allow for wiggle room to land the price I want).

I waited eagerly staring at the screen for a new notification with an offer from a buyer, any buyer, I couldn’t wait to flip these puppies! After about 2 days of being listed, offers started to roll in. LOW BALL offers (drat!) (eye roll) (scuff). I politely counter offered to those users (I don’t believe in declining any offer) who turns away from money!? Not me!

A few more days rolled by and I am still just as bright-eyed as Day 1. And there it was an offer from a buyer for $100. I didn’t want to accept it right away and seem to eager or thirsty. After about 5 minutes (so patient, right?) I couldn’t take the anticipation anymore and hit accept. It was done! And to think, just few days before, I was purchasing these shoes for just $30 and was able to flip them for nearly 4x the amount.

Flipped!

After this flip, things shifted in the thrift universe for me as I began to experience a lucky streak by finding brands that I’ve had on my wish list for months. Pieces that are quality and in demand brands to resell! There is definitely a lesson here— you can find creative ways to make money to use as disposable income or to support yourself as long as you are willing to do the work to make it happen!

4 Consignment Style Curated Boxes Every Fashionista Must Try This Month

If you’re like me you have a wardrobe full of clothing that covers just about every style and trend that has come in gone within the last 5 years. And if you’re also like me, you probably only wear about 20% of your wardrobe. Do you constantly find yourself staring at your closet and wondering…hmm, “why don’t I ever have anything to wear?!” Well- I am here to offer a solution! So put down your credit card, back away from the computer and let me introduce you to 4 consignment style curated boxes that spruce up your wardrobe once and for all!

By now, most of us are familiar with style curated boxes and the benefits they can provide. But, just in case you are totally lost, style curated boxes like Stitch Fix, Rent the Runway, ShoeDazzle, and Gwynnie Bee eliminate the hassle of women having to shop for affordable fashion and provide personal styled, premium clothing delivered straight to their door every month! Sounds like a dream come true, right? Wait- there’s more.

A new twist that I have recently come across in style curated boxes, is the introduction of consignment style curated boxes. These boxes promise to deliver the same benefits popular brands bring, but aim to provide you with items that are gently used or next to new!

Yes!

If you are a thrifty girl like me, and love the nostalgia of pre-loved garments, than you will appreciate a style box like this! All items will be in conditions similar to an item in your own closet that you’ve washed and worn a few times-it’s that simple. How do you know if you are a good fit for a subscription like this? Here are a few tell tale signs:

You:

  • Like surprises

  • Love getting new clothes but hate the idea of shopping for them

  • Love getting new clothes but hate paying $40 for a shirt (seriously)

  • Are environmentally conscious & want to save the planet

Check out a few subscriptions I plan on trying this month!
