Happy 2019 Everyone!
One of my favorite things to do at the start of a New Year is to evaluate the clutter in my life, and for me that means, starting with my wardrobe. Now that I have taken steps to maintaining a capsule closet, I have noticed that I currently own an abundance of dresses! And this is probably for good reason-they are easy to style! Choosing one piece of clothing over having to wear pants is literally a win in my book. It’s not that I don’t like wearing pants (maybe a little bit) but, really just the simplicity that comes with throwing on one piece of clothing and being put together in an instant that is so satisfying. I even find that dresses are consistently one of the more popular women’s item that I sell within my closet on Poshmark; women love to not have to think about what they want to wear, they just want to look good.
While I began cleaning my closet of unwanted items, I noticed a few of my favorite dresses were sheath dresses, sleeveless and career style. I typically save these dresses to wear to work during the summer months for their comfort and because they are the most appropriate attire for my office’s business casual environment (again I don’t wearing like pants). However, during the winter months, I always feel that I have a shortage of warm dresses to work with, forcing me to wear the same couple items in heavy rotation; until now.
It’s not much of a discovery in the general sense of the term but, during my last thrift trip I discovered this beautiful paid sleeveless sheath dress that would fit perfectly with the current color scheme in my wardrobe. It had these beautiful faux buttons on the chest and the perfect bottom length (tall girl problems) that basically screamed for me to picked it up!
Tuning into my creative juices, I decided to pair it with a black mock neck 3/4 sleeve sweater, tights and my new favorite thigh high sock boots I recently picked up from Poshmark to complete my look!
In minutes I realized that the dresses I reserved for the hot summer months could work for me during the winter too! The mock neck top in many ways elevated the dresses professionalism by adding an extra layer of contrast to the subtle plaid look while also giving it a fun & flirty look. My sock boots are on trend and pair with just about everything to give you that extra ump in your step while keeping your toes warm! My jewelry was simple for this look as I was careful to not over style this look- and paired a thrifted men’s gold/silver watch and minimal dainty earrings. I choose a thrifted leather on strap mini backpack to hold all my essential items for my commute.
I encourage you to look through your current wardrobe and create a new outfit idea inspired by some of your favorite pieces. Is there a top you love to wear during one season that can be accessorized with others and still work?
